chrysler-logoChrysler has many types of keys which come in different shapes and sizes. They come with unique or differentiated features as well. Most of them include a remote control to unlock the alarms and the car doors. At Portland Locksmith Pros, we’re well equipped to handle any kind of replacement car key for your Chrysler. These are some of the common types of Chrysler car keys:

Programmed Keys

Every programmed key will come with a digital signature that is important in identifying the correct key for the car. Each key has a distinct or unique digital signature.

Cloned Keys

People usually get this type of key from a car dealership. Car dealers make cloned keys by copying the digital signature from a programmed key onto a new key. The vehicle won’t tell one key from the other as it will see the digital signature on both keys.

Many Chrysler car keys permit a simple programming procedure which you can perform by yourself. Though, after the programming procedure, the car should see two programmed keys. To program more keys, the vehicle needs to see two distinct digital signatures. This feature in Chrysler cars and their keys is important in the prevention of theft.

The reason most dealerships, hardware, and Depot stores opt to clone the keys is that they do not have the special equipment needed to program keys.

Metal Key

This is a key that will ignite your Chrysler car after inserting it into the ignition and turning. If you wish to prevent others from starting up your car with a metal key, you can disable the turning ability of the car’s ignition.

Transponder Keys

The keys feature wafers as well as a computer chip located in the key’s plastic head. The wafers prevent the unnecessary turning of the car’s ignition cylinder. The manufacturer connects the computer chip to the car’s immobilizer or BCM. Each time the car’s computer senses the chip, the key will turn the ignition but won’t start.

FOB Key

A FOB key is usually a combination of a remote control and a transponder key but without a metal blade. It locks almost like a remote control. It features some buttons that the driver can use to lock and unlock the Chrysler car’s doors. Cars that use fob keys don’t have a place you can insert a standard metal key. Instead, the cars have a place you can put the remote control to start the car. After you insert the remote control, the vehicle’s computer will detect the computer chip mounted in the fob key and will then deactivate or neuter the immobilizer.

Proximity Keys

The keys have proximity transmitters that are integrated into the car’s remote control. The car’s computer can detect the transmitter; meaning, the driver the open the car’s door by only touching them or just touching a button. The keys also permit the driver to start the car by only pushing a button.

VATS Keys

This is an older type of Chrysler car keys and was produced for limited edition cars in the past. This type of key has a chip located right at the middle of the key, and it works whenever it comes into contact with the vehicle’s ignition.

5 Stars!
City: Durham

This has happened twice. The first time I misplaced a key, I had gone to my dealership to get a new key. They literally had me wait 3 days to get my new key, so I was without a car. When I did it for the second time, I called these guys and they had me my new Chrysler key the same day. Much appreciated!
